What exactly is a cozy fantasy?

There are many definitions, but most focus on a feeling or vibe instead of a trope.

Cozy fantasy…

• Has a warm vibe that is hopeful, uplifting and healing;
• Provides a soft escape, uses magic and enchantment to warm the heart, explores deep connections and relationships;
• Is community centered, often in a small town or village;
• Includes every day joys like cooking, gardening or owning a shop;
• Includes goals with low angst and low stakes;
• Characters face personal growth, not danger;
• Characters live in a supportive, inclusive environment with friends, family and found family where even the smallest successes are celebrated;
• Magic is used in daily life (it is never used as a weapon);
• Kindness is the rule;
• The author uses vivid descriptions to immerse you in the book’s world;
• Stories are character driven;
• The author uses humor;
• The story comes to a positive, happy conclusion.

A good cozy fantasy should be enjoyed with a cup of cocoa and a snuggle buddy in front of a warm fire OR on a beach under a wide umbrella with a Pina Colada.  Embrace the calm and warm feelings these lovely stories provide.
